Description : The Cabezo Redondo is an archaeological site from the Bronze Age that is located in a head 2 km from Villena ( Alicante ). It is not a village , but a true regional center that was inhabited between 1500 and 1100 BC. C. and probably belonged to the Argaric culture . It is speculated that the first investigations were carried out by Juan Vilanova i Piera around 1870, although it was the archaeologist José María Solerwho began to study it systematically in 1959 after the discovery of several pieces of metal (gold, silver, copper, etc.), arriving in 1963 the discovery of the Tesorillo del Cabezo Redondo , which is preserved in the Archaeological Museum of Villena . 1 Already then, a large part of the deposit had been lost due to the gypsum quarries in the area, although since that year the remaining area has been protected and studied. In recent years, the University of Alicante , together with the University of Valencia and Granada, carries out an annual conference directed by Mauro S. Hernández Pérez and helped by Gabriel García Atiénzar and Virginia Barciela to continue excavating and studying the site. It was included in the Historic-Artistic Complex of Villena and declared a land of public utility in 1968 . 2 In 2020, the Cabezo Redondo area was segregated from the city as a whole and declared as an asset of independent cultural interest . 3 In 2010 began its comprehensive rehabilitation, which after a first continuous phase with a view to opening the Interpretation and Visitor Reception Center.4
